BlockBeats News, May 10th, according to Fortune report, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said at an event hosted by Sequoia that Gen Z and Millennials are using ChatGPT as a "life counselor," while the American college student group may go even further - they have developed a complex workflow around ChatGPT. Altman said that young people's use of ChatGPT is similar to using an operating system. They have complex setups and connect it to files, jot down fairly complex prompts, or save them somewhere. Altman said that college students "hardly make a life decision without asking ChatGPT how to do it".
In a report released by OpenAI in 2025, it stated that "compared to any other use case, any other type of user, young people in the American college-age group are the most embracing of ChatGPT," adding that over a third of the 18 to 24 age group uses ChatGPT. Altman said that young users can do this because ChatGPT has a memory of the user's past conversations with the AI product. "It has a complete context of everyone in a person's life and everything they've talked about."
The report shows that people use ChatGPT for various consultations ranging from relationship advice to business and medical issues. Others use it as an alternative to talk therapy. Meanwhile, there is a debate among domain experts on whether consulting ChatGPT for major life decisions is safe or advisable. Venture capital firm Sequoia made its first investment in OpenAI in 2021 when OpenAI was valued at $14 billion. OpenAI is currently valued at $852 billion.
