Bitcoin, for example, relies on a decentralized network of validators known as miners who compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles to validate and add blocks to the blockchain. On the other hand, newer blockchains often employ delegated consensus mechanisms where a smaller group of validators is elected to validate transactions on behalf of the network.
