BlockBeats News, May 13th. Amazon announced the shutdown of its standalone Rufus shopping chatbot and its integration with Alexa, launching the new "Alexa for Shopping" AI shopping assistant. The tool went live on Wednesday, capable of answering queries on behalf of users and performing shopping operations. Amazon stated that the new tool integrates user shopping history and other data, aiming to be the "world's best and most personalized AI shopping assistant."

As part of a strategic realignment, Amazon has embedded Alexa directly into its store's search results. When users browse specific products, a chat window appears with information and several recommended items. Users can summon this assistant through the cursive "A" icon on the Amazon website or app, or via Echo Show devices. The standalone Rufus chatbot will be discontinued, but its recommendation features and shopping history will be utilized in some Alexa for Shopping queries.

Amazon's Alexa Business Lead, Daniel Rausch, believes the new service surpasses other AI shopping tools as it can access valuable data such as customer reviews and a vast product catalog, providing reliable information on inventory status and estimated delivery times to users. He noted that other AIs struggle in the shopping domain because they only scrape web results and insert them into conversations.
