Coin Introduction

1. Project introduction

Powerledger (POWR) is a technology company that builds software for distributed and decentralised energy markets for a sustainable future. Power Ledger is the operating system for new energy markets enabling tracking and trading of energy, flexibility services and environmental commodities. Power Ledger‘s platform is modular and scalable: All products can be contracted separately, scaling as needed.

The products are divided in three pillars:

(1) Energy trading & traceability: The platform's track and trade features help consumers stay on top of the provenance and flow of energy. It can give consumers choice over the energy they're using and facilitate peer to peer trading. Solar P2P energy trading can deal with excess solar in the grid without subsidy.

(2) Flexibility trading: MODE or Marketplace for Optimisation of Distributed Energy, is a marketplace, which enables Distributed Energy Resource (DER) owners and flexible loads to provide grid services to monetise their assets.

(3) Environmental commodities trading: The platform technology is being used to ensure the trading of environmental commodities such as renewable energy certificates and carbon credits, are more transparent, secure, and efficient.

When Power Ledger partners with a customer that wants to gain access to the suite of products on the platform, a bond must be provided in the form of POWR tokens. This POWR bond is escrowed for the period of time that the customer is utilizing Power Ledger’s platform and then returned when the customer leaves the platform, if the customer has no outstanding payments to Power Ledger and other customers.
