BlockBeats News, May 28th. A Treasury Department official appointed by the Trump administration is actively pushing for the printing of $250 bills featuring Trump's portrait. This would be the first time in over 150 years that a living person's portrait appears on circulating U.S. currency. Last August, a U.S. Treasury Department official provided the Bureau of Engraving and Printing with design proposals that included Trump's portrait and signature. The director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, who oversees currency production, was reassigned last month after resisting the plan. In her resignation message, she wrote, "The buck stopped here."
If successful, this move would break the long-standing tradition of not depicting living individuals on U.S. currency. Currently, officials appointed by Trump are continuing to pressure the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to advance this symbolically significant currency design.
