BlockBeats News, May 31st, according to AXIOS, a senior administration official and another source familiar with the matter revealed that during a meeting held in the Situation Room on Friday, Trump requested multiple modifications to the proposed agreement reached by his envoy with an Iranian representative.
Two U.S. officials said Trump is eager to finalize the agreement and is expected to do so soon, but he has demanded strengthening several key points that are crucial to him, especially regarding the relevant provisions on Iranian nuclear material. Trump's request has sparked a new round of back-and-forth communication between the two sides, a process that could last for several days. According to the two sources, Trump asked his team to amend the provisions in the draft regarding Iran's nuclear program. The current memorandum of understanding includes Iran's commitment not to seek nuclear weapons, but no specific concessions beyond that.
The memorandum stipulates a 60-day window for negotiations on Iran's nuclear commitments and U.S. sanctions relief, with the primary issue on the agenda being how to deal with Iran's existing enriched uranium stockpile and restrict further enrichment activities. Trump hopes to try to modify this part. "This is more about the specific details of how the U.S. gets the (nuclear) material and the specific timeline," a senior administration official said in reference to enriched uranium. A second source said Trump also wants to amend the wording regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. official said that Iran is estimated to need about three days to respond.
