The 4th Epic Satoshi Mined By ViaBTC is Up for Auction on CoinEx

2024-04-25 07:53:48

This past Saturday marked a significant event in the cryptocurrency world as ViaBTC, a leading Bitcoin mining pool, successfully mined the 840,000th Bitcoin block. This occasion coincided with the fourth Bitcoin halving event.

With this milestone, the ViaBTC mining pool also secured the fourth 'Epic Satoshi' in Bitcoin’s history contained inside the 840,000th block.

840,000th block on Bitcoin

This specific "Satoshi" is highly valued because it's associated with the first block of the fourth Bitcoin halving, in which miners were fiercely competing to mine first.

Bitcoin halving is an event that happens approximately every four years, or after every 210,000 blocks are mined. It reduces the reward for mining new blocks by half, which in turn, decreases the rate at which new bitcoins are generated. This mechanism ensures a predictable and controlled issuance of new Bitcoins, helps maintain Bitcoin’s scarcity, and controls inflation.

For the Bitcoin network and users, the halving is a reminder of Bitcoin’s unique economic model, unlike traditional fiat currencies. It affects mining profitability, market supply, and demand dynamics, thereby often leading to increased market interest and speculative activity surrounding Bitcoin prices.

The next section explores what makes the 840,000th block and the Epic Satoshi so rare.

The Rarity of the Epic Satoshi

A Satoshi represents the smallest unit of a Bitcoin currency, named after Bitcoin's presumed creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Each Bitcoin is divided into 100 million Satoshis (1 BTC = 100,000,000 satoshis), making them the basic building blocks of the cryptocurrency.

But not all Satoshis are created equal. According to Ordinal Theory, each Satoshi can be uniquely numbered and classified based on its significance within the blockchain events.

This theory has given rise to categories of Satoshis namely "Common," "Uncommon," "Rare," "Epic," "Legendary," and "Mythic."

  • Common: All the Sats in a block except the first Satoshi of a block.
  • Uncommon: The first Satoshi of any new block, which is mined approximately every 10 minutes.
  • Rare: The first Satoshi of each difficulty adjustment period, which occurs every 2,016 blocks or about every two weeks.
  • Epic: The first Satoshi of each halving epoch, occurring every 210,000 blocks, which is roughly every four years.
  • Legendary: The first Satoshi of each "cycle," where a cycle is a period of six halvings and a difficulty adjustment, occurring approximately every 24 years.
  • Mythic: The very first Satoshi of the genesis block, which marked the origin of the Bitcoin blockchain. It is unique in that it is unspendable and unattainable.

An 'Epic Satoshi'—like the one associated with the mining of the 840,000th block by ViaBTC—is extraordinarily rare and significant.

As mentioned above, this category of Satoshi emerges at the start of each halving epoch, which occurs every 210,000 blocks or roughly every four years.

Since there have been four Bitcoin halvings, the 840,000th block (4 x 210,000) marked the fourth halving.

Halving reduces the Bitcoin reward for mining by half and slows down the creation of new Bitcoins. This process is a built-in feature of Bitcoin to ensure scarcity and control inflation.

The recent ViaBTC-mined block marked only the fourth occurrence of an 'Epic Satoshi' since Bitcoin's inception. Given the rarity and predetermined occurrence of these events, mining an 'Epic Satoshi' is a valuable milestone within the Bitcoin ecosystem.

To put this rarity into perspective, consider that there have been millions of blocks and countless Satoshis generated, yet only four have achieved the status of 'Epic.'

For ViaBTC, mining an 'Epic Satoshi' represents a major achievement with the potential to significantly enhance its reputation and strengthen its position among the top Bitcoin mining pools.

Such milestones attract interest from across the crypto community, especially from collectors who hunt for rare Satoshis.

The Epic Satoshi mined is currently up for auction on CoinEx. Bidding starts at 1 BTC and will conclude on April 25, 2024, with the highest bidder acquiring it.

The current highest bid is 3.5 BTC, and there’s barely a day remaining before the auction closes. To place your bid for the Epic Satoshi, visit the auction page on CoinEx.
