What Is Dogecoin?
What is Dogecoin?
Dogecoin means different meanings to different people. At its core, Dogecoin is the unintentional crypto movement that makes people happy. It is also an open-source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that makes use of blockchain technology, which is a highly secure decentralized system for storing information as a public ledger maintained by a network of computers known as nodes. This is the Dogecoin philosophy, as defined in the Dogecoin Manifesto, and its distinct, dynamic community comprised of friendly people just like you. The Dogecoin community values mutual support, kindness, teaching people about cryptocurrency, fundraising, having fun, making memes, and being ridiculous. Dogecoin's unofficial tagline, "Do Only Good Everyday," nicely captures this.
Furthermore, the Dogecoin community is dedicated to promoting Dogecoin as a viable and legal alternative currency to regular fiat money. To that end, the Dogecoin ecosystem is growing in dynamic and organic ways, intended to become a widely used currency of the People, for the People, while remaining loyal to its origins as the most entertaining crypto. Dogecoin is fundamentally useful, personal, welcoming, and dependable.

History of Dogecoin
Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer invented Dogecoin as a joke cryptocurrency in late 2013. Billy and Jackson both thought bitcoin was taken way too seriously and wasn't much fun. Jackson built the Dogecoin.com website and would have been the public face of Dogecoin for a while, while Billy worked as a lone developer on the first four releases. Dogecoin was created on December 6th, 2013, based on the popular Doge meme: an image of a really attractive Shiba Inu dog with multi-colored comic sans text that appears as the dog's "thought bubbles." This popular meme was inspired by a 2010 photograph of Kabosu, a Japanese female Shiba Inu puppy adopted from an animal shelter in 2008 by Japanese kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sat. To Billy and Jackson's amazement, Dogecoin was a near-instant hit, gaining massive popularity on sites like Reddit, where it was and still is utilized as a tipping currency. Dogecoin had more transactions per day than Bitcoin when it was only two weeks old. Furthermore, this website received over one million unique visitors in its first month!
Both Billy and Jackson left the development team in 2014, and a Dogecoin Core Development team was formed.
Since then, the team has been maintaining and growing Dogecoin, which is made up of a small number of core maintainers and supported by more than 40 contributors over the years. Despite its origins as a joke, Dogecoin quickly grew into a big and devoted cryptocurrency community. This lively and welcoming crypto community has also supported numerous worthy organizations and charitable projects. The Dogecoin community contributed 26.5 million Dogecoin (worth $30,000.00 at the time) in 2014 to send the Jamaican bobsled team to the Sochi Winter Olympics! In March of that year, the Dogecoin community raised over 40 million Dogecoin (worth $30,000.00 at the time) to aid in the endeavor to build clean-water wells in Kenya. Recently, the Dogecoin Foundation teamed up with prominent YouTubers Mr. Beast and Mark Rober for their TeamSeas effort, with the ambitious goal of raising a total of $30 million to eliminate 30 million pounds of trash from the world's oceans.
