What is Metamask And How to Add Avalanche Network to Metamask?
What is Metamask
Metamask is a popular browser-based wallet plugin that supports the Ethereum Network (ERC20) by default. It is currently available as a browser extension and mobile app on Android and iOS devices. Other blockchain networks, such as BEP2 & BEP20 (Binance Chain and BNB Smart Chain networks), Avalanche, Polygon, and others, can be manually imported into the wallet with a little effort. A few advantages of Metamask wallets are that they have a history of security and dependability, have more online resources and instructions, are open source for an audition, have many tools and custom settings, and support a wide variety of languages. Metamask is also designed to support NFTs and a wide range of decentralized apps. MetaMask was developed to satisfy the needs of decentralized applications built on the Ethereum blockchain, Metamask provides a secure and fully decentralized environment that helps in connecting a user to the blockchain.
Metamask aids users to manage their accounts and private keys in a variety of methods, including hardware wallets while keeping them separate from the site data. This is a significant security enhancement over storing user keys on a single central server or even locally, which can allow for mass account thefts.

Avalanche Blockchain Network
Avalanche is a free and open-source platform for building decentralized apps and enterprise blockchain deployments in a unified, interoperable, and highly scalable ecosystem. Avalanche is the world's first decentralized smart contracts platform, with near-instant transaction completion. Ethereum developers can simply build on Avalanche because Solidity works out of the box.
Avalanche is distinguished from other decentralized networks by its consensus protocol. Over time, people have come to believe that blockchains must be slow and unscalable. The Avalanche protocol uses a unique method of consensus to give strong safety guarantees, speedy completion, and high throughput without compromising decentralization.
AVAX
AVAX is Avalanche's native token. It is a hard-capped, rare asset that is used to pay fees, secure the blockchain network through staking, and serve as a fundamental unit of account amongst the several Avalanche Subnets.
Avalanche Features
1. Speed
Avalanche makes advantage of a revolutionary consensus technique created by a group of Cornell computer scientists. The Avalanche blockchain can permanently confirm transactions in less than one second.
2. Scalability
Avalanche blockchain can perform 4,500 transactions per second, which is far faster than existing blockchains.
3. Security
Avalanche blockchain gives greater security and guarantees well above the 51% standard of other networks.
4. Flexibility
Avalanche simplifies building custom blockchains and decentralized apps with practically any arbitrary logic. Avalance blockchain also allows you to create Solidity smart contracts and use your favorite Ethereum tools like Remix, Metamask, Truffle, and others. Avalanche can also be used to build public and private blockchains.
5. Sustainability
Instead of proof-of-work, Avalanche employs an energy-efficient proof-of-stake consensus process.
How to Add Avalanche Network to Metamask?
MetaMask is a popular non-custodial Ethereum wallet that connects easily to the Avalanche blockchain network. Below are the steps to set up your metamask blockchain app to connect to Avalanche blockchain
1. Download the Metamask extension for your PC if you use a PC, or the Metamask app for your mobile phone if you use a mobile phone. Then set up your Metamask wallet and ensure to keep your private key or seed phrase safe.
2. Log in to your Metamask app, click navbar and go to settings, after opening settings, select Network and select “Add Network”. If you are accessing your Metamask via your PC extension, the Ethereum network is the default network of Metamask, at the top click Ethereum Mainnet, scroll down and select “Add Network”.

3. After clicking “Add Network” Input Avalanche network parameters as follows:
Network Name: Avalanche Network
New RPC URL: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
Chain ID: 43114
Symbol: AVAX
Explorer: https://snowtrace.io/

4. After inputting the network parameters as above, click save. You will get a pop-up message that you have successfully switched to the Avalanche network.
How to Import Tokens Manually on the Avalanche Network
It’s common sometimes that when you receive a token, it does not show on your Metamask wallet, you don’t have to panic about it, some tokens have to be added manually on your Metamask using the token’s contract address. Every token built on a blockchain network has a contract address, this is not constrained to only the Avalanche blockchain network. To add a custom token to your Metamask wallet, simply follow the steps below.
1. Open the MetaMask extension in your web browser
2. Select the Assets tab.
3. Scroll down and click Import tokens.

4. Select the Custom Token tab.

5. Fill in the Token Contract Address area with the token's contract address. The token symbol and token decimal will be automatically filled. You can change it if necessary. You can confirm the token contract address and decimal on credible platforms like coinmarketcap.
6. Click the Add Custom Token button. If you have these tokens at your address, you will see the token details and balance.
7. Import Tokens should be selected. You have added the custom token to MetaMask, which will be visible on the MetaMask Assets page.
