Yala is a pioneering Bitcoin-native liquidity protocol, purpose-built to transform Bitcoin from a mere store of value into a dynamic asset capable of generating yield across decentralized and real-world financial systems. At its core, Yala enables users to deposit BTC into a trust-minimized platform, minting $YU—a fully collateralized stablecoin—while retaining full custody of their Bitcoin. This foundational setup unlocks capital efficiency: users can deploy $YU across DeFi ecosystems or invest in regulated real‑world assets (RWAs) without ever liquidating their BTC.

Why Yala Matters

  • Seamless BTC Utility: Yala bridges Bitcoin into high-performance ecosystems like Ethereum and Solana via mint-and-mint mechanisms, enabling capital flows without sacrificing security.
  • Modular Architecture: The protocol is built with layered composability—supporting a stablecoin ($YU), loyalty tokens (Berries), insurance modules, meta-minting, and more.
  • Cross‑Chain and Cross‑Asset Access: BTC collateral can be leveraged to engage with DeFi strategies like yield farms and liquidity pools on Ethereum and Solana, as well as real-world fixed-income assets via tokenized marketplaces.
  • Institutional-Grade Infrastructure: With “Institution Mode”, Yala supports integrations with custodians, cold wallets, and multi-sig setups—paving the way for enterprise adoption.

Yala's Evolution & Roadmap

Yala’s development journey has been robust:

  • Seed Funding Success (Oct 2024): Raised $8M led by Polychain Capital and Ethereal Ventures, fueling core development and security efforts.
  • Testnet V2 (Dec 2024): Launched with enhancements like streamlined staking flows, liquidity incentives, and robust UI—a milestone featuring over 1 million testnet users.
  • Testnet V3 & Mainnet Prep (Mar 2025): Conducted intensive stress testing with ~3 million “Yetis”, vetting smart contracts, tokenomics (including $YALA governance token design), RWA integration testing, and security audits by Zenith and TRM Labs.
  • Mainnet Launch (June 2025): Live on Ethereum and Solana, enabling real BTC deposit for minting $YU, alongside cross-chain yield strategies and initial RWA deployments.

The protocol’s roadmap has been consistently delivered—with major milestones such as insurance modules, liquidation AMMs, governance frameworks, and its organizational transition to yala.org.

Recent Updates: April to July 2025 — Expanding the Yala Ecosystem

Yala has rapidly evolved from a high-conviction Bitcoin DeFi thesis to a functioning cross-chain liquidity engine powering stable yields, real-world asset access, and direct crypto spending. Over the last four months, Yala introduced key updates that have pushed it from protocol launch to real-world application. These developments are not only technical milestones but also strategic steps toward Yala’s larger vision of making Bitcoin productive without compromising self-custody.

April 2025 — Launch of RealYield: Bitcoin Meets Real-World Assets

In April, Yala officially launched RealYield, its tokenized real-world asset (RWA) marketplace. This marked a significant milestone in integrating TradFi-grade yield with BTC-native infrastructure. The marketplace allows $YU holders to access a curated set of regulated fixed-income products—such as U.S. Treasury bills, corporate bonds, private credit funds, and income-generating real estate portfolios.

What sets RealYield apart is its non-custodial, modular architecture. Users can select vaults based on duration (short-term, mid-term), risk profile, and APY. The vaults are powered by smart contracts, and Yala partners with licensed RWA issuers and custodians to tokenize and onboard the underlying assets.

  • Risk Transparency: Each RWA vault comes with on-chain disclosures, Chainlink Proof-of-Reserves integration, and real-time APY metrics.
  • Yield Range: Users can access yields between 5%–11% depending on the asset class and duration.
  • BTC-Backed Access: Users can collateralize BTC and mint $YU, then deploy that $YU into RWA vaults, effectively earning institutional-grade yield while still holding Bitcoin.

This development positions Yala as one of the first protocols to natively bridge Bitcoin capital into regulated financial products.

May 2025 — Cross-Chain Expansion to Solana

In May, Yala completed a strategic integration with the Solana blockchain, opening a new frontier for high-speed, low-cost Bitcoin-based yield generation. With the bridge now live, users can deposit BTC, mint $YU on Ethereum, and then seamlessly port that $YU to Solana via Wormhole or other cross-chain routers.

On Solana, $YU is already supported by major DeFi protocols including Jupiter, Raydium, and MarginFi. This unlocks a wide range of opportunities:

  • Liquidity Farming: Yala launched yield farming pools on Raydium offering 20%–30% APY in the initial bootstrapping phase.
  • Instant Execution: Solana's low latency enables high-frequency strategies that are less feasible on Ethereum.
  • LST Support: Users can now use Solana-native Liquid Staking Tokens (like mSOL and jitoSOL) as part of collateralized strategies, further diversifying yield sources.

Yala's Solana presence is critical for mass adoption due to the chain’s scalability and DeFi ecosystem maturity. It's also a key step toward supporting a truly chain-agnostic Bitcoin liquidity layer.

June 2025 — Mainnet Launch and Institutional Infrastructure

June was a defining month as Yala officially launched its mainnet, transitioning from a high-performing testnet to live, real-capital operations on both Ethereum and Solana. The mainnet supports real BTC deposits via integrations with Wrapped BTC (wBTC), native bridging solutions, and in the future, Ordinals-based BTC protocols.

Several major enhancements were rolled out at launch:

  • Institution Mode: A special configuration for funds, DAOs, and treasuries that includes multi-sig and cold storage wallet compatibility, KYC-enabled access controls, and treasury management tooling.
  • Lite Mode: Designed for retail users, Lite Mode offers an easy-to-use vault interface where users can earn fixed 12% APY by minting $YU and staking it in designated pools. This mode minimizes risk exposure and auto-compounds rewards.
  • Oracle Infrastructure: Yala partnered with Pyth and Switchboard to stream real-time pricing data across its vaults, ensuring secure and transparent liquidation mechanisms.
  • Liquidity Deployment: The team launched $YU/$USDC and $YU/ETH pools on Uniswap V3 (Ethereum) and Raydium (Solana), seeding them with initial liquidity and protocol-owned capital.

Security was another key focus: all smart contracts passed formal audits from Zenith, and the platform began on-chain AML integration via TRM Labs.

July 2025 — PayFi Universe and the Yeti Card

The most recent and headline-grabbing development is Yala's launch of the PayFi Universe—a full-stack spending ecosystem built around the concept of “Hold Your Bitcoin, Buy Now Pay Never.

At the heart of PayFi is the Yeti Card, a crypto-native debit card linked to the $YU stablecoin. The Yeti Card enables real-world spending through Visa and Mastercard networks, along with integration into Apple Pay and Google Pay. Rather than selling Bitcoin, users spend only the yield generated from their BTC deposits.

Key highlights of the PayFi release include:

  • Spending from Yield: Users can choose to automatically route yield from $YU staking or RealYield vaults to their Yeti Card, enabling day-to-day expenses without touching their principal.
  • Composable Accounts: Card accounts can be set to “Auto-Replenish” from multiple vaults, combining DeFi and RWA yields.
  • Circle Partnership: $YU is fully interoperable with USDC thanks to a backend alliance with Circle, allowing seamless peg stability and off-ramping.
  • Alchemy Pay Integration: Fiat on/off ramps are supported in 170+ countries, ensuring that Yeti Card users can top up and withdraw in local currencies.

The PayFi Universe represents the culmination of Yala’s vision: transforming Bitcoin into a productive, usable financial layer without sacrificing sovereignty. It closes the loop between yield, liquidity, and real-world utility—enabling a truly seamless BTC-powered lifestyle.

What Sets Yala Apart

1. Bitcoin-First Yield Engine: Unlike many platforms that treat BTC as collateral for other assets, Yala generates yield directly from BTC without needing to convert it.

2. Multi-Mode Strategy Coverage:

  • Lite Mode: Risk-managed 12% APY via stablecoins.
  • Pro & Institution Modes: Higher-yield DeFi and RWA strategies with security.
  • RealYield: Tokenized real-world assets.
  • PayFi: Yield circulation via spending tools.

3. Comprehensive Custody & Compliance: Audits by Zenith, AML via TRM Labs, and institutional-grade custody frameworks add layers of trust.

4. Chain-Neutral Design: Yala supports Ethereum, Solana, and native Bitcoin via Ordinals/meta protocols—maximizing compatibility and footprint.

What’s Next?

As of mid-July 2025, Yala is:

  • Accepting applications for the Yeti Card and the RealYield platform.
  • Preparing incremental feature rollouts—such as full DAO, governance modules, stable $YU peg enhancements, new custody partners, and expanded cross-chain coverage.

Yala’s vision is clear: turning Bitcoin from a static asset into a flowing, yield-generating medium fueling real-world spending, decentralized finance, and regulated finance, all while preserving trust in BTC’s core. As the PayFi Universe expands, Yala is defining a new chapter where holding Bitcoin means accessing spending power, investment yield, and institutional utility—all simultaneously.
