Typhoon Kristine recently struck the northern, central, and eastern regions of the Philippines, causing massive flooding that impacted millions of lives. The heavy rains brought severe damage, affecting over a million people. Tragically, at least 150 lives have been lost, with some still missing. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported extensive damage across the country. Over 150,000 houses and 764 infrastructure facilities, including roads and bridges, were damaged or destroyed, with losses estimated at ₱6.4 billion. The agriculture sector also suffered, with over 63,000 hectares of crops ruined, adding another estimated ₱2.9 billion in losses.
In Batangas, one of the hardest-hit areas, the typhoon claimed 59 lives, mainly due to landslides caused by continuous rainfall. Even though floodwaters are receding, about 3,000 families—or roughly 11,000 people—remain in 70 evacuation centers across the province, facing a long journey toward recovery.
