What is TOTP?
TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) is a widely used method for two-factor authentication. It generates a new dynamic password every 30 or 60 seconds. The core principle of TOTP relies on synchronizing time between the user’s device and the authentication server. This method offers a high level of security and is difficult to crack.
A popular TOTP tool is Google Authenticator, which produces a 6-digit dynamic code using time and encryption algorithms, providing users with additional account protection.
This guide will illustrate how to set up a TOTP authenticator using Google Authenticator.
Download and install the Google Authenticator App on your smartphone
1. iOS: Search “Google Authenticator” in the App Store, or download it here.
2. Android: Search “Google Authenticator” in the Google Play Store, or download it here.

Notes:
1. In Google Authenticator, the code for CoinEx is labeled as “coinex.com” followed by your email address by default, helping you differentiate between TOTP codes for various accounts.
2. CoinEx DOES NOT back up users’ secret keys. Please back up your key properly and store it securely. If you forget or lose your key, please reset your Google Authenticator here or submit a ticket for further assistance.
