1.Project introduction

Pearl is essentially a Proof of Useful Work (PoUW) project that replaces the "meaningless hash computations" in traditional PoW with real-world MatMul (matrix multiplication) operations that occur in AI inference and training.

During LLM inference, the GPU's core job is to continuously perform matrix multiplications. Pearl modifies the MatMul and quantization kernels in vLLM, enabling these matrix multiplications to not only produce valid inference outputs but also generate a verifiable PoW proof. When a proof hits the chain's difficulty target, it effectively mines a candidate block.

In short, it turns the GPU MatMul kernel in LLM inference into a PoW lottery machine, allowing the same GPU cycles to simultaneously produce inference tokens and mining tickets.
