Kasplex Layer 2: zkEVM Scaling Solution Driving Kaspa’s Next Growth Era | ViaBTC Capital
- KAS0%
Abstract
Kasplex is a Layer 2 project providing a comprehensive solution for the high-performance PoW blockchain Kaspa. It aims to address the current scarcity of application-layer products in the Kaspa ecosystem by launching a zkEVM Layer 2 solution based on the Kaspa network, combining Kaspa’s lightning-fast base-layer speed with smart contract capabilities. Kasplex L2 is scheduled to launch in September 2025. Built on Based-Rollup technology and fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), it will significantly reduce migration costs for developers and users and is expected to introduce DeFi, NFT, and dApps applications to the Kaspa ecosystem.
In this article, ViaBTC Capital will introduce the technical principles of Kasplex L2, outline its ecological layout, and finally explore its far-reaching impact and challenges for the future development of the Kaspa ecosystem.
Kasplex Project Overview and Market Positioning
Kaspa, as a PoW public chain based on BlockDAG technology, has demonstrated high performance and throughput validated by the market. However, the current Kaspa ecosystem mainly focuses on inscription-type meme projects and lacks mature products with practical application value. Kasplex emerges to address this pain point. It is operated by a community-driven nonprofit organization and funded by the Kaspa Ecosystem Foundation (KEF).
Kasplex has three core products:
- KRC20 Protocol (already launched): A Kaspa-native token standard similar to Bitcoin's BRC20, designed to support digital asset issuance through on-chain data inscriptions while effectively avoiding UTXO bloat. To date, this protocol has deployed over 2,350 tokens with a cumulative transaction volume exceeding 120 million. Some ecosystem projects are below:

- Kasplex L2 (upcoming): A Layer 2 scaling solution based on Based-Rollup technology, utilizing zero-knowledge proofs (ZK Proofs). It aims to inherit the security and decentralization features of the Kaspa mainnet while enabling smart contract deployment. Its compatibility with the Ethereum toolchain will be a key advantage in attracting developers.
- Kasplex newVM (future plan): A lightweight, high-performance virtual machine designed specifically for use cases such as IoT, gaming, and automation scripts. It will serve as a complement to the zkEVM to meet specific high-performance requirements.
Kasplex Technical Framework and Development Progress
The core technology of Kasplex L2 lies in its efficient, scalable, and secure architectural design. The system operates through the collaboration of key components including the Client, Executor, Prover, and Relayer.
Transaction Process: Kasplex’s transaction handling is divided into four stages: submission, sequencing, synchronizing, and execution. User transactions are embedded into Layer 1 transaction payloads for submission, where a deterministic sequence is performed by Kaspa’s BlockDAG structure. L2 nodes then immediately pull transactions from L1 and generate blocks.

Ethereum Compatibility: Through a dedicated Relayer module, Kasplex enables conversion between Ethereum transaction formats and Kaspa transaction formats. This allows developers and users to utilize familiar Ethereum wallets and development tools, significantly lowering barriers for ecosystem interoperability.
Development Progress: The Kasplex L2 public testnet launched in May 2025 and has achieved full EVM compatibility. As of August 13, the testnet has processed approximately 14 million transactions, with stable network operation.
Kasplex Layer 2 Ecosystem Growth
Kasplex L2’s ecosystem is rapidly expanding, with many DeFi projects such as Zealous Swap and Kaspa Finance actively building on the testnet. Community engagement is high, with over 270,000 active wallet addresses. This vibrant ecosystem foundation lays a solid groundwork for the successful launch of the Kasplex mainnet.
Key factors for future success after the planned mainnet launch in September 2025 include:
- Technical Stability and Security: The finality of L2 transactions will be verified on Kaspa through zero-knowledge proofs, a critical feature to enhance security.
- Developer and User Attraction: In the competitive Layer 2 market, Kasplex must continuously optimize its EVM compatibility and provide superior developer support to attract more projects.
- Expansion of Use Cases: Beyond DeFi and NFTs, the future development of Kasplex newVM will open possibilities for high-performance scenarios such as IoT and gaming.

ViaBTC Capital has strategically invested in the ecosystem project Kaspa Finance, demonstrating confidence in its pivotal role within the Kaspa ecosystem. Kaspa Finance specializes in developing a decentralized exchange (DEX) platform on Kaspa, modeled after Uniswap V3, which encompasses advanced features such as staking and lending mechanisms. Notably, the project has secured additional investment support from KEF.
Conclusion: Kasplex as the Catalyst for Kaspa’s Application Layer
From an investment perspective, Kasplex demonstrates significant growth potential due to its clear market positioning addressing Kaspa ecosystem’s core pain points, innovative technology architecture based on Based-Rollup and ZK Proofs, and validated community activity and early ecosystem projects. Its seamless EVM compatibility effectively lowers ecosystem barriers, providing critical infrastructure for Kaspa’s comprehensive prosperity. Although challenges remain in technical implementation and market competition, if Kasplex L2 launches on schedule and operates stably, it is poised to become a key catalyst enabling explosive growth of Kaspa ecosystem’s application layer and merits long-term attention.
