3.Token application and distribution
Token application
The S token is Sonic's native token, used to pay transaction fees, stake for network security, run validator nodes, and participate in protocol governance. It also powers developer incentives and fee monetization—developers can earn a share of fees generated by their dApps. Additional utilities include rewards through airdrops, ongoing funding, and an innovative burning mechanism to help control supply.
Token distribution
At launch, the total supply of S is 3.175 billion tokens. An additional 6% will be minted for an airdrop after six months. An extra 1.5% will be minted annually for six years for ongoing funding. Block rewards are distributed to validators (using existing FTM rewards for the first four years), with future block rewards resuming at a 1.75% annual inflation rate post-four years. Tokens not used in ecosystem support are burned. Season 1 of the airdrop distributes 190.5 million S, with 25% unlocked at once and 75% vested with linear decay. Details on private, KOL, or strategic rounds not specified.
