Four Whale Wallets Keep $321M in BTC Shorts After Brief $64.5K CPI Spike
  • BTC0%

CoinEx News: U.S. July headline and core inflation matched consensus, briefly lifting Bitcoin to $64,487 before it quickly reversed below $64,000. The largest of four tracked Hyperliquid short wallets covered 650 BTC through reduce-only stop-market orders at an average price near $64,257, realizing a loss of about $167,000, then rebuilt 269.35 BTC after the pullback. By August 13, all four remained short, holding 5,053.8 BTC worth approximately $321.2 million with about $2.83 million in combined unrealized profit.

Separate spot-side flows also pointed to continued whale distribution. Onchain Lens reported that a dormant wallet moved 1,770 BTC worth $112.14 million after two years, with only 114 BTC going to Kraken and 1,650 BTC moving to a fresh wallet. Lookonchain separately reported that a Paxos-linked wallet sold another 800 BTC worth $50.72 million through Wintermute, taking its two-month sales to 2,500 BTC worth $154 million. These unrelated flows show that some large holders are reducing exposure, although they neither prove coordinated selling nor explain Bitcoin’s reversal by themselves.
