Trump Announces Tariffs on Polysilicon and Its Derivative Products

BlockBeats News, August 7th, President Trump of the United States signed an executive order to impose a minimum import price and additional tariffs on imported polysilicon and its derivative products based on Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, in order to support the U.S. domestic polysilicon, semiconductor, and solar supply chain.

The announcement stipulates the minimum import prices as follows: $21 per kilogram for polysilicon; $100 per kilogram for polysilicon ingots and wafers; $0.22 per watt for solar cells; $0.38 per watt for solar modules. At the same time, the U.S. will impose a 15% ad valorem tariff on the polysilicon ingots and related derivative products listed in the announcement. These measures will take effect from 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on December 4, 2026.

The announcement also authorizes the U.S. Department of Commerce to establish the "Bring Jobs Home" incentive program. Companies that pledge to build, renovate, or expand polysilicon, silicon ingot, wafer, or solar cell production facilities in the U.S. and commence construction by January 20, 2029, can apply for partial exemption from the Section 232 tariffs on imported equipment and related products.
