Analyst: US and Iran Unlikely to Back Down, Hormuz Strait Could Become a "Long-Term Powder Keg"

BlockBeats News, July 12th, Maritime Security Center Senior Fellow and President of Auxilium Worldwide Ian Ralby warned that the war between the U.S. and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz cannot be resolved through military means. He added that sustained conflict will only drive up global fuel and food costs. One side has the will to continue the fight, while the other has the will to continue trying to undermine and weaken the other's capabilities. This in itself is the formula for continued conflict. Unfortunately, this could mean a long-standing problem for the navigability of the Strait of Hormuz.

The parties affected by the conflict may push for U.S.-Iran diplomatic efforts to resume, but changing this dynamic will be difficult as both sides are fickle and have deeply entrenched interests in success and victory. Unfortunately, the U.S. has a very flexible concept of what victory looks like, while on the Iranian side, they now have a very clear desire to need some form of retaliation for everything that has happened, which is an idea that leads to long-term violent conflict.
