Stock Market "Ammo" Nearing Limit? Goldman Sachs Says US Household and Institutional Stock Holdings at Record High
  • US0%

BlockBeats News, July 27th, according to Goldman Sachs data, the stock allocation of US households, pension funds, insurance institutions, and investment funds has reached close to 65%, hitting a record high. This is an increase of about 31 percentage points from the low point after the 2008 financial crisis, surpassing the peak during the dot-com bubble. Stock allocation of similar investors in G10 countries has also risen to about 57%, approximately 12 percentage points higher than the previous peak.

This indicates that the global residents and institutional wealth's reliance on the stock market has significantly deepened. While a high allocation can strengthen the wealth effect during an uptrend, it also means that household consumption and institutional balance sheets are more sensitive to market pullbacks, with relatively limited potential incremental buying pressure. However, reaching a new high in allocation itself is not a signal of a top and still requires consideration of valuation, earnings, and fund flows to evaluate.
