BlockBeats News, August 19th. According to CNBC, Nvidia is trying to act as an AI infrastructure "matchmaker" in the Nordic region, connecting companies that own its GPUs and are looking for data center capacity with data center operators that have available space and power resources. Two sources familiar with the matter said Nvidia has proactively reached out to Nordic data center companies to inquire about potential compute capacity buyers and has facilitated connections in some cases between U.S. and Asian GPU holders and AI infrastructure builders.
Nvidia's CFO Colette Kress previously stated that the company has indeed been involved in such "matchmaking," including helping clients find land, power, and data center shells, and quickly deploying compute power. The report noted that this reflects Nvidia's efforts to further extend its influence in the AI ecosystem from chips to infrastructure deals.
The Nordics are becoming a hotspot for AI data center construction, primarily benefiting from abundant power, land, and a low-temperature climate conducive to chip cooling. In recent years, Finland and Norway have announced several projects in the hundreds of megawatts, with Norway's grid operator Statnett data showing that about 2.3GW of data center capacity is currently queued up for future grid connections.
