U.S. Allies Question Trump's Claim That "Hormuz Strait Mines Have Been Cleared"
  • US0%

BlockBeats News, August 27th - According to sources, US allies privately assessed that the Strait of Hormuz is likely to still have mines. Although the US has made some progress in mine clearance in international waters, it is estimated that 80 to 150 mines planted by Iran have not been fully cleared, and some mines may have drifted from their original positions due to ocean currents.

Recently, Trump has repeatedly claimed that all mines in the strait have been cleared, calling the Strait of Hormuz a "very normal operating strait." The US Central Command declined to comment on the estimated number of mines in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. Analysis suggests that the possibility of all mines in the strait being cleared is "extremely low." Even if the mine threat is reduced, many commercial vessels are still within reach of Iranian drones and short-range missiles, and many ships are beyond the coverage of the US air defense system.

The International Maritime Organization also stated that there is no exact information on cleared mines yet, urging vessels to exercise maximum caution. Iran has claimed that only Iran knows the locations of the mines and has warned that US mine-clearing vessels could become targets. Currently, Iran and Oman have discussed establishing a "temporary joint maritime corridor" and a mine clearance project; the UK and France are also planning mine clearance and maritime security operations post-ceasefire.
