Apple Considers Introducing a New Chip Manufacturing Partner, Initiates Early Discussions with Intel and Samsung

BlockBeats News, May 5th. Affected by the tight production capacity of advanced processes and the surge in AI demand, Apple is evaluating adjusting its long-term strategy of relying on a single foundry system. The company has had preliminary discussions with Intel and Samsung Electronics to explore introducing new chip manufacturing sources, but actual orders have not yet been placed.

According to reports, Apple is assessing Intel's foundry capabilities on one hand and examining Samsung's advanced wafer fab under construction in Texas, USA, on the other hand. However, Apple remains cautious about non-TSMC technology systems, and the cooperation process faces uncertainties.

Supply chain tightness is the core background of this adjustment. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that the shortage of iPhone and Mac chips has constrained the company's growth, with the bottleneck mainly concentrated on the advanced process nodes relied upon by the SoCs.

With the simultaneous increase in AI computing power demand and AI devices at the terminal side, product supplies such as Mac mini, Mac Studio, and iPhone 17 Pro are under pressure, and it is expected to take several months to achieve supply-demand balance.

The industry believes that introducing multiple foundries aligns with Apple's consistent strategy of diversifying the supply chain risk. However, in the field of advanced processes, TSMC remains irreplaceable in the short term. If Intel and Samsung can secure orders, it will significantly boost their competitiveness in the foundry business.
