BlockBeats News, July 27th, Travis Kalanick's holding company Atoms has completed a $1.7 billion equity financing round. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Bain Capital, Fifth Wall, Uber, among others. Ben Horowitz will join the board. The funds will be used for industrial AI and physical automation (mining, transportation, food, etc.). In particular, Pronto (a heavy-duty automation company under Anthony Levandowski, previously acquired by Atoms) is a core strategic focus in the mining and transportation sectors.
This move is widely seen as Kalanick's return to the tech stage after leaving Uber.
