BlockBeats News, July 29th, MARA Holdings CEO Fred Thiel stated that the revenue generated by using electricity for AI infrastructure far exceeds that of Bitcoin mining, with power resources becoming the most critical strategic asset for mining companies. He stated: "If each kilowatt-hour is used for AI, the revenue generated is much higher than that from Bitcoin mining."
Thiel pointed out that as Bitcoin's halving continues to squeeze mining rewards and electricity remains the largest operational cost for mining companies, these companies must control power resources or establish close partnerships with utilities to remain competitive. MARA has partnered with Starwood to build a approximately 1GW mining platform and plans to further expand to 2.5GW; the company also announced this month the acquisition of a Texas facility with a power capacity of around 2GW for the development of digital infrastructure.
However, Thiel stressed that AI will not completely replace Bitcoin mining. In regions with low-cost, idle, or surplus electricity, Bitcoin mining remains an important way to increase power utilization. He believes that in the future, for mining companies with grid access and undeveloped land, Bitcoin mining will become one of the uses of power resources, rather than the only one.
