BlockBeats News, May 14th, according to The New York Times report, prominent venture capital firm a16z and its co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz have cumulatively disclosed over $115 million in federal political donations during the 2026 mid-term election cycle, surpassing George Soros ($102.9 million), Elon Musk ($85 million), and Jeff Yass ($81.8 million), becoming the largest known political donor in this election cycle.
Compared to the donation amount of about $63 million in the 2024 election cycle, a16z's donation amount has significantly increased this cycle. It is worth noting that on November 6, 2024 (the day after the general election), a16z injected over $23 million into a major cryptocurrency-focused Super PAC, demonstrating its clear long-term strategic political alignment.
Most of the funds went to Super PACs focusing on cryptocurrency (such as Protect Progress, Fairshake) to support industry-friendly candidates. The Fairshake PAC network (a major funding recipient of a16z and Coinbase, among other companies) has raised over $193 million in the 2026 cycle. Additionally, a16z is also associated with AI industry Super PACs like "Leading the Future," advocating for a light regulatory approach and seeking to establish a political firewall on artificial intelligence regulatory policies.
