BlockBeats News, May 30th, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated at the 2026 Reagan National Economic Forum that the U.S. government has seized approximately $1 billion in cryptocurrency assets from entities associated with the Iranian military since the conflict broke out.

In an interview with Fox Business Channel, Bessent said that the U.S. side "directly controls these wallets," and some asset holders may not even realize that their wallets have been taken over.

Reports indicate that the U.S. has recently intensified its efforts to disrupt Iran-related financial networks. Earlier, there were reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran was promoting the use of a Bitcoin-settled marine insurance platform and planning to require oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz to pay transit fees in Bitcoin to circumvent the risk of fund tracking and freezing due to sanctions.

However, Bessent did not specify whether this seizure operation is related to the aforementioned Bitcoin payment plan, nor did he disclose the specific composition of the seized assets.

Furthermore, according to previous accusations by Israeli sources, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran had received around $1.5 billion in USDT stablecoin funds; there have also been reports that criminals recently impersonated Iranian official institutions to demand that shipping companies make payments using Bitcoin and USDT.
