Wall Street Questions Fed's Communication Strategy, JPMorgan Chase Moves Up First Rate Hike Expectation to December

BlockBeats News, July 30th - Federal Reserve Chair Powell's press conference after the interest rate decision raised questions on Wall Street about his stance on inflation due to his lack of clarity on the future policy path. Subsequently, JPMorgan Chase significantly brought forward the expectation of the Fed's first interest rate hike from the second half of 2027 to December 2026, believing that Powell failed to explain how he would fulfill his emphasized anti-inflation commitment.

Several institutions believe that the three dissenting votes supporting the rate hike at this FOMC meeting are more signaling than the decision to hold the rate unchanged. Bob Michele, Chief Investment Officer of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, stated that this implies the Fed is gradually transitioning to a more hawkish policy stance; Jim Bianco, President of Bianco Research, pointed out that against the backdrop of Powell downplaying forward guidance, the dissenting votes can better reflect the true internal inclination of the FOMC, and the September meeting may become a key turning point in policy.
