Survey: 77% of Americans Believe Retirement Plan Allocation to Cryptocurrency Is High-Risk
  • BELIEVE0%

BlockBeats News, August 27th. The latest survey from the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS) in the United States showed that 77% of Americans believe that incorporating cryptocurrency into workplace retirement plans carries risks, with 46% considering the risk to be "very high"; additionally, 53% of respondents are against employers offering cryptocurrency investment options.

The survey revealed that Americans' concerns about retirement security are on the rise, with 80% of respondents believing that the United States is facing a "retirement crisis," a significant increase from 67% in 2020; 61% are worried about their financial security after retirement, 68% say that saving for retirement is becoming more difficult, and 77% state that debt has impacted their savings capability.

The survey was conducted by Greenwald Research from October 24, 2025, to November 14, 2025, polling a total of 1,203 Americans aged 25 and older.

At the same time, the U.S. government and regulatory agencies are pushing to expand channels for 401(k) and other retirement accounts to allocate cryptocurrency and other alternative assets. In March of this year, the U.S. Department of Labor proposed relevant rules to provide a potential safe harbor for including alternative assets in 401(k) plans. However, this plan faced opposition from some Democratic lawmakers, who believe that cryptocurrency assets are too volatile and investor protection is still insufficient.

This indicates that at the policy level, the U.S. is gradually relaxing the channels for retirement fund allocation to cryptocurrency assets, but ordinary investors still hold a cautious view of the risks involved.
