Codex remote control can now directly operate Linux servers.
  • GPU0%

动察 Beating AI Flash: OpenAI's Codex now supports controlling agents on Linux servers directly from a mobile phone. Run codex remote-control start on the server, then use codex remote-control pair to generate a temporary pairing code. Open the Remote page in ChatGPT on your phone, enter the pairing code, and you can connect to that machine. Codex still runs locally on the server, while the phone handles viewing tasks, sending new instructions, and processing approvals.

This is especially useful for GPU clusters and headless Linux servers. Researcher Tanishq Mathew Abraham has used it to manage automated research experiments and training tasks on a Slurm GPU cluster from his phone. Community members have also successfully run it on environments like Ubuntu and Arch Linux.

However, this feature is still marked as Experimental by OpenAI. The official documentation hasn't fully caught up either: Developer Commands already lists the CLI pairing method, but the main Remote Connections document still states that phone pairing must be initiated from a Mac or Windows desktop app. There are also reports on GitHub of pairing failures between Linux and Android, as well as devices not displaying.
