BlockBeats News, August 9th - Iranian Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian stated on August 8th that Iran is currently in negotiations with Oman regarding the legal framework, management approach, and delineation of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz. The two sides are very close to reaching an agreement. However, whether the Strait of Hormuz can be reopened also depends on other conditions, including the United States making amends for its violations of the US-Iranian Understandings Memorandum.
Amirabdollahian mentioned that in the past, there was a set of rules for navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran believes that the original route is no longer suitable as a shipping lane, and Iran cannot accept its continued use. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a new navigation mechanism, which involves complex technical and legal issues. Currently, the two sides are discussing a temporary shipping route. Before the new formal shipping route is finalized, a temporary channel will be established as the basis for the future formal route. On this issue, the military departments of Iran and Oman have conducted consultations based on existing nautical charts. Once the relevant negotiations are completed and a final conclusion is reached, the new shipping route will be determined.
